24 PESOS INTERVIEW

 (Silas Maitland bass player)

What are you listening to lately ?

Gregory Porter, D'Angelo, Derek Trucks, Howlin Wolf, The Band.

If you have to describe your music in there of four words, what would you call it?

Just what comes out. (when we get together)

What embarrassing songs might I find on your MP3 player?

 Toy boy by Sinita

Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones?

For sure. Everything you hear is an influence be it good or bad. Hendrix, the Beatles, the Stones, Miles Davis, BB King, Albert

King, Freddy King  would be good ones.

When and why did you start playing?

When i was 15, i thought JJ Burnel from the Stranglers was cool and wanted to be like him.

What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?

A friend played me Robert Cray on video, i loved the sound of the guitar, that got me listening to blues. When i heard Jaco Pastorius playing jazz for the first time that spoke to me and got me interested in learning my instrument. Mainly there are just those moments when things seem to come together and you hit that spot and it feels good, those are the moments that stick in the minds of musicians. It just happens, you can't force it.

What genre of music can't you stand to listen to?

There is no Genre that i can't stand. If it's done well i can appreciate it. I can't stand to listen to music without integrity.

Best track you've ever written and why?

That's tough but my favourite moment from 24pesos is the bass on Melon Man from when the ship goes down or Julian's lyrics on Walk away, Moz's Clav on The Good Lord Did or Bryan's groove on Rise Up from the new album. My favourite tune is Clap Hands from the new album

Do you consider to record/do a live album?

Yeah, we've been thinking about it for a while, just need the right moment to do it

What is the furthest show from your home that you have done?

Beijing i think as a side man. With 24Pesos, that'd be Canada.

What can people expect to see at your live performances?

Even we don't know that. You'll just have to come and find out

24PESOS - DO THE RIGHT THING
