THE GREYHOUNDS INTERVIEW
Answers from Andrew Trube (guitar/vocals)and Anthony Farrell (keyboards/vocals)
When did you first start singing?
Andrew : In high school i was in choir
Anthony : I always sang around the house when I was a child. My first real experience singing in front of an audience was when I was 7 or 8 when I started busking on the Venice Beach, CA boardwalk, which I continued doing until I was about 12 or so..
What did your family do to encourage you?
Andrew : My dad would drop me off at gigs and also got me my first guitar. when he gave me the guitar he said "you better do something with this".
Anthony : We had a piano in the house when I was a child, and I would make noise on it all the time. After a while I started figuring out little pieces of songs. My parents heard this and enrolled me in piano classes at what is now known as the Colburn School of the Arts in Los Angeles, where I had the privilege of studying with Harold Battiste and Eric Reed among others. Definitely a turning point in my life. I can't ever thank them enough for that.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Andrew : BB king / buddy guy / jimmie vaughn / derek o'brian / denny freeman / junior kimbrough / bobby bland just to name a few
What kind of music do you listen to today?
Andrew : Blues / soul / funk / old country&country gold / anything that has soul and can make you feel
Anthony : Lately I've been listening to a lot of Classic Country, and early 90's hip hop.
What embarrassing songs might I find on your MP3 player?
Andrew : I pretty much dig everything i listen too and not embarrassed of it. ha ha
Anthony : The first song that comes to mind is "Gypsy Woman" by Crystal Waters. Yeah. She's homeless.
Where would you most like to perform?
Andrew : Wherever people are into it, into the music. ill go anywhere in the world if people wanna listen. i have a real soft spot for europe. I feel that the audiences in europe are listening more intently on a consistent basis than here in the states.
Who would you most like to open for?
Andrew : Unfortunately most of those people are dead. alive..., well... not sure, anyone who gets what
we do. We have been very lucky to open for many amazing people over the years.
If you weren't singing, what would you be doing.
Andrew : Not sure, this is what i do and have been doing for years. Maybe construction , i love building things and working with talented people.
Anthony : It is hard to imagine not making music, but If i had to do something else, I would probably find my way into the culinary arts. I really do enjoy making food for people. It is an art form that is similar to music in the fact that you are able to get some gratification from seeing people enjoy your work.
What genre of music can't you stand to listen to?
Andrew : That has the wrong intent. I love art thats real, if its real I'm into it.
Anthony: Contemporary American Top 40 Country
What hidden talents do you have?
Andrew : I'm pretty good with a gun, and I'm good on a horse. I did grow up in Texas, haha.
Anthony : I play a mean game of pocket billiards
Best track you've ever written and why?
Andrew : I love all the songs i have written but i feel my best work is yet to come.
Greyhounds - Heaven On Earth
