The Mulligan Brothers - Via Portland
THE MULLIGAN BROTHERS INTERVIEW
If you have to describe your music in there of four words, what would you call it?
Honest, original, Americana inspired
What is your favorite track on your latest album?
What was the first song that you ever played for public? How did it make you feel?
I was 15 years old. My school asked me to perform a song at the annual pageant. My classmates requested that I play -NAME- by the Goo Goo Dolls, and so I did. I've never been as nervous as I was that night. However, by the end of the night, I had caught the bug. I knew that would be the first of many songs to sing.
Do you have any fan comments of how your music or a song affected them?
The best part of writing songs is the infinite amount of possibilities In regards to interpretation. I love when people hear a song and wrap it around their life story. With time, it seems the song was always about them. That kind of identification with a song is what makes music such a universal language.
Do you have your own favorite music and is it any different from the music you are playing?
I'm a fairly diverse music lover. I think it's inevitable that songwriters will take musical advice from their heroes by listening to the songs. I don't think our songs are a spitting image of anyone else's. However, our songs are heavily influenced by generations of amazingly talented songwriters.
What is the best place to write a song?
Honestly, I welcome songs wherever and whenever they want to arrive. But if I had to name a hot spot, my car is where a vast majority of my songs were born.
What embarrassing songs might I find on your MP3 player?
I would be mildly embarrassed by the large amount of emotional rock songs from the 90's. But only because of tremendous size of the pile.
What genre of music can't you stand to listen to?
I have a really hard time with a lot of American Modern country.
What hidden talents do you have?
I'm pretty good with my hands. I like carpentry and general "thing making".
What's the furthest show from your home that you have done?
We've done two tours to the Middle East to play for the troops. I think the furthest would be Djibouti, Africa.
Just for fun…………. Please fill in the blanks,
Without music i would be ...................
A miserable, lifeless hull of a human being.
Either that or an electrician... Or a combination of the two.
Playing liveshows is …………………………….
Not only a blast, but it's also where music lives. It's important to remember that records, musical radio, CDs and MP3s are wonderful expansions of the live show.
And off course if there is anything you want to share please feel free to do so.
